Vision Exam Testimonials

Our vision exams are unique. We schedule 2 hours for each patient, to provide time to complete all the necessary tests and discuss the results with the families. The full exam time is spent face to face with Dr. Gabrielle as we don’t utilize technicians. On this page, our patients kindly share their thoughts on their GFVC vision exam. I have never had a more complete exam than I received at this clinic! I had been misdiagnosed by “The #1 Clinic” in Bellevue causing me wasted time and money to erase the misdiagnosis. Dr. Gabrielle knew INSTANTLY what my issues were and correctly evaluated not only my vision needs but my muscular weakness and the exercises to correct it! I can never thank you enough!!!

We took our 14 month old daughter to see Dr. Gabrielle for an eye exam, because we had heard it was important to make sure everything was developing appropriately. Our daughter was meeting all of her milestones on time according to the pediatrician, and she appeared to be functioning quite well, so when Dr. Gabrielle discovered that her vision was 20/200 with both eyes, we were shocked.

Dr. Gabrielle prescribed glasses, and within a few days of getting them, our daughter’s personality had undergone a very positive transformation. Before the exam, we thought that she was developing typically, but she often seemed frustrated and had frequent crying/screaming spells. After getting the glasses, she seems less frustrated. In the first three days of getting her glasses, she learned about ten new words, and we could see how much her communication had been affected.

She also began to smile a lot more often, and we soon realized that she had not been smiling because she could not see others smile. She clearly had a sense of humor, but she did not understand social smiles until she got her glasses. She started making much better eye contact as well, and it was amazing to watch her “discover” the faces of her family members for the first time. We are relieved and so thankful to have caught her visual problems at such a young age so we can give her the best chance for success.

I have been to other optometrists’ offices, and Dr. Gabrielle clearly did a very different exam. She took the time to do extra testing with my daughter that in this case proved extremely important in discovering such a big visual impairment. She gave us a very detailed summary, and helped us to better understand the best treatment plan for our child.

Dr. Gabrielle did a wonderful job with our 4 year old son! He has sensory processing disorder, and is typically afraid of new environments. But Dr. Gabrielle was very patient with him and was able to get a very thorough eye exam.

In a short time she built up trust and our son became very comfortable with her. She got the best out of him and made the whole experience really great! The bonus was Dr. Gabrielle also provided resources for us (therapists, dietitians) so we can further help our son! We highly recommend Dr. Gabrielle!

Ron V., Snoqualmie

Dr. Gabrielle was fantastic with my 4 yr old, very active son. We had taken him to several visits at a regular eye doctor – all who said his vision was fine, normal for his age. But we kept sensing that he was having trouble seeing.

Dr. Gabrielle spent a dedicated 2 hours with him, keeping it fun and doing lots of different tests. She detected that he indeed was having a few issues and needed corrective glasses. She really spent the time explaining everything to me, her recommendations for treatment and what we can expect in the future. It was fantastic!

Dorothee G., Seattle

Dr. Gabrielle was kind and gentle with my daughter who was a bit fearful. She took all my daughter’s concerns seriously and spoke to her with empathy, and at the same time made everything fun. Simultaneously Dr. Gabrielle answered all of my questions and helped me see things about my daughter that I hadn’t noticed on my own. It was a great experience and I would highly recommend Dr. Gabrielle.

Tracey L., Seattle

My son Kelly is an adult male with developmental disabilities and cerebral palsy. Dr. Gabrielle was recommended by a friend whose sister is also DD and nonverbal, so I was hopeful that the doctor could also figure out how to evaluate Kelly. He doesn’t enjoy exams and really didn’t want to be there!

But she did a great job through patience and creativity. She reinforced his successes so he was much more inclined to continue, and seemed to know just when to push a bit and continue, and when to back off. She did indeed get a good evaluation. I felt she was very respectful of him, and did her best to understand him as an individual in order to gain his trust and do the exam. She was remarkable. She also spent a good amount of times after explaining her results and their significance to me.

I’d been told by an ophthalmologist in Kirkland that it was impossible to assess five year olds for accommodation and convergence, and that correcting my son’s vision beyond 20/50 was also impossible because he was too young. Dr. Gabrielle’s expertise and quality of work, as well as her warmth and passion were absolutely evident. Now we have a plan to address the significant vision issues we had suspected, and get the help we need.

Everyone was warm and helpful. The exam was extremely thorough, and Dr. Gabrielle was amazingly patient with him and connected to him.

I was so impressed that I am having a full assessment done myself. Also, the entire office setup, including snacks and toys, made the experience much more pleasant overall.

I was the third person in my family to see Neena. She did wonders evaluating and changing prescriptions for my wife and daughter.

Since I have a condition that clouds, obscures and blocks my ability to see from my left eye, I have considered myself “blind” for many years. Neena actually exposed the fact that my brain is still trying to use the bad eye and I was stunned (with a little coaching from Neena) how much my eye decided to participate in the appointment. I have waited years and years to find someone who could tell me what I was seeing (or not seeing). I have visited Ophthalmologists’ who only evaluated what I saw, not what I didn’t see.

I am a massive skeptic and don’t believe any benefit from “therapy” unless I “see it with my own eyes”. I’m thrilled with my new understanding and can’t wait to start my journey to clear vision.

Terry C, Kirkland

I recently had an eye exam with Dr. Gabrielle. I received the most comprehensive exam I’ve ever had. In a world where many doctors rush you in and out and hardly establish eye contact this was a refreshing change.

I had been unhappy with my previous prescription and was always taking my glasses off. When I explained this problem with Dr. Gabrielle she gave me extra time to walk around with a pair of trial lenses so that I could experience what the lenses would feel like. She also explained why I was dissatisfied before because of my eye-teaming challenges. My previous lenses were clear but pulled too much on my eyes.

I highly recommend Dr. Gabrielle for a pleasant and comprehensive exam. You won’t be disappointed!

Dr. Neena is wonderful. She was able to get a full exam on the first try with my special needs son when others have failed in 3 appointments! She has a special way with kiddos and I really appreciate her “don’t give up” attitude.

Terry B, Marysville

The exam was the most through I have ever received in the 50 plus years I have been seeing eye care professionals. The Doctor was informative and open to my own health choices regarding my vision. I feel very confident that I have finally achieved a base line from which I can work towards better vision or at least maintaining my present vision status

Rita C, Seattle

Dr. Gabrielle, as always, was very explicit with the results of the evaluation, telling us what could have affected these results in a positive and negative way. Also, she gave us some options about how to improve the results for next time.

Below is a review I posted on on 6/26/2012 following my son’s first visit to Dr. Gabrielle. We had been referred to Dr. Gabrielle by a friend because my son had some issues with vision coordination and accommodation that had not been able to be addressed by 4 or 5 doctors he had seen in as many years.

Now after about half a year since his first visit to Dr. Gabrielle, my son just had a follow-up on 2/12/2013 and many aspects of his vision coordination and accommodation have significantly improved. Dr. Gabrielle’s skills and care made all the difference and we’re truly thankful that we’ve found her clinic and very grateful for her service.

We wish all the best for her and her staff and hope more people will be able to benefit from her dedication to professional competency and genuine and gentle care for her patients.

Dr. Gabrielle is a very nice doctor, professional, bringing an excellent quality eye evaluation to my kid.

Dr. Gabrielle really caters to children well. They feel appreciated and important there, even when they are the “patient”. This really helps moms out!

Stephanie S, North Bend

Thanks so much for being so patient with my daughter. We have NEVER been to a doctor who has taken their time to make sure my daughter was completely comfortable and having fun.

Also, we’ve never been to someone who was so patient and kind and explained things where both me and my daughter could understand without making her feel ashamed of her problems! AMAZING! Thank you.

S.G., Kirkland

Dr. Gabrielle cares not only about the whole patient – going beyond vision and eyes – she cares about the whole family.I continue to be touched and amazed by the quality time she spends with our family on each visit.

L.M., Bellevue

I recently took my little 8 month old to see Dr. Gabrielle for his first 6 month old eye exam. Some parents don’t know this but it is very important to get your child in as early as 6 months to get their eyes checked, the earlier the better.

The service she gave to my child was amazing. She was so patient and kind, especially with kids you have to be. She did a series of tests with my son to make sure his eyes were working properly. I felt she took a lot of good time with my son, which surprised me because she didn’t just treat my son as an infant with a quick service but as a regular patient.

When you meet Dr. Gabrielle you don’t just feel your meeting a doctor but someone who is there for you.

Mother of 6 month old boy

My family and I have been seeing Dr. Gabrielle for a number of years now. Every vision exam for me and my child have been thorough and left me feeling confident in my understanding of our vision needs. She relates well with children and adults.

My 5 year old son, Cade, has had a number of visits with her and each one she has taken time with me to get updates and observations from me then carefully chooses tests that allow him to feel comfortable. I have noticed that the testing methods she chooses always seem to double check his responses so I feel confident with the findings in the end. She makes the testing fun and serious all at the same time. My son always enjoys going to the office so when I tell him we are going to see Dr Gabrielle there is never any resistance.

My exams and the resulting prescription for glasses have been outstanding. When I recently decided to try wearing contact lenses I knew Gabrielle Family Vision Care was the place for me to go. Dr Gabrielle ordered a number of lens options for me and has communicated well the process. I am in the fitting process and appreciate Dr Gabrielle’s willingness to continue trying a variety of lens brands to insure we have found the best fit for me.

I will continue to pass on high praises and share my experiences with anyone looking for a vision exam.

My time at Gabrielle Family Vision Care was very nice. Dr. Gabrielle is always very nice and understanding. I always feel happy when I leave. I feel like I’m getting really good vision care at Gabrielle Family Vision care. Keep up the good work!

M.S., 12.5 YO patient, Kenmore

I had an eye exam with Dr. Gabrielle at Gabrielle Family Vision Care and the services I received were more than what I had before in an eye exam at any other place. I used to go to those places where you’d pay a fee and out you went with just a prescription in your hand.

In this case Dr. Gabrielle wasn’t just there to collect my money and give me a prescription, she was there to treat my needs and do way more than just an eye exam. She listened to what I had issues with, she observed what I was going through, and she was there as a friend to consult. She truly cares for her patients one at a time and at her own pace. I never felt rushed or felt it was an “in and out” service at all.

I would highly recommend this clinic to someone to deserves the best service in the Eastside. Thank You Dr. Gabrielle for not just being a Dr. but someone who also can listen to their patients and their needs.

J.A., Renton

My 8 yr old daughter saw Dr. Gabrielle for her eye exam. This was my daughter’s first eye exam.

Dr. Gabrielle was very thorough and made sure my daughter was comfortable throughout the 2 hour exam. She dilated my daughter’s eyes and talked her through each step and even gave her prizes for handling it so well. Any time my daughter had questions, Dr. Gabrielle answered them in a way that my daughter could understand the answers. Dr. Gabrielle made the exam FUN for my daughter, who initially was very nervous about the whole thing!

Not to mention that the lobby has books, Build-A-Bear and snacks for patients and their families. What a great environment for kids who may be nervous or even afraid of seeing the eye doctor!

I have myopia (nearsightedness). I have been going to the eye doctor since 5th grade. I’ve always gone to the quick, cheap, easy eye exam.

But last year I saw Dr. Gabrielle. Her eye exam is completely different from what I experienced at other offices. Other offices did a 15 minute exam; Dr. Gabrielle spent 2 hours with me. She performed many tests that other doctors did not. She asked lots of questions and made sure I was comfortable.

In the end, she confirmed the myopia and adjusted my prescription to the correct strength, and also went over other findings with me. If I weren’t moving out of state this summer, my daughter and I would continue to see Dr. Gabrielle. I recommend her to others!

M.B., Everett WA

As a primary care optometrist who works in a commercial setting, I occasionally refer my patients for specialty eye care when it is beyond my scope of practice. My clinical philosophy is to always give my patients the best care possible. Therefore, when my 7 and 9 year old daughters became rapidly more myopic this year, I decided it was time for them to see an expert in developmental vision care to see what can be done to slow down the progression. I immediately thought of one of my dearest friends from optometry school, Dr. Neena Gabrielle.

Dr. Gabrielle is one of the compassionate people I have ever known, so I wasn’t surprised that after we earned our degrees in primary care optometry she went on for several years of further study to earn her fellowship and board certification in vision development. She has always been passionate about caring for those with special visual needs. I knew I could trust her to come up with a practical and effective treatment for my daughters so it was worth it to me to drive to Kirkland, Washington for them to see her.

Vision development is different for each individual, as different as visual needs for each lifestyle. That is why when you go to see a specialist in this area, there is a long list of tests that needs to be done to measure each person’s visual ability and the exam can take up to 2 hours. Dr. Gabrielle is very thorough in how she gathers her data because she needs to have a complete understanding of the areas in which the patient needs improvement. It allows her to create a treatment plan and revisit those data points at the follow up visits and ensure that progress is made. Since I understood this, I explained to my daughters that the vision exam will be long, but knowing Dr. Gabrielle she will keep the pace upbeat and interesting. She has many different ways to keep a child engaged during the exam, including a TV screen with dancing toys, different voices that she uses, and interesting equipment. Her office is very patient-friendly.

My daughters had never met Dr. Gabrielle before but were quickly put at ease with her kind and fun demeanor. They were engaged during the whole exam and coaxed into cooperating very well. More importantly, Dr. Gabrielle was able to come up with a plan for us to slow down the progression of myopia. Now it is up to us to follow her instructions and do the prescribed exercises.

Dr. Tram Dinh, Oregon

Dr. Gabrielle’s kindness and compassion for her patients is so refreshing. With her loving approach, she is able to accomplish so much more with our daughter than other doctors have.

An appreciative Mom, Redmond

I am delighted with the personalized and professional vision care I receive from Dr. Gabrielle. I have told others about my positive experiences at the Gabrielle Family Vision Care Center.

Our girls truly love coming to their eye appointments. Regardless of where they are you help them feel good about their experience. Before coming recently, the girls said – “hey when are we going to have our next vision appointment — it’s been too long”. Can’t have a better endorsement than that!

Dr. Gabrielle is exceptional…knowledgeable, caring, and wonderful with children! Our family was referred to her by my son’s occupational therapist, and she was great with his special needs (which can be quite challenging). Now he wears glasses and his eye-hand coordination and handwriting is greatly improved.
My other child is typically developing, and I chose to bring her to Dr. Gabrielle as well, because I know she will get the very best care there. Also, Dr. Gabrielle is very personable and compassionate; I feel she really cares about my family. I leave her office each time feeling positive. Highly recommended!

I have told many people about Dr. Gabrielle in the 4 months since I first saw her. She is what all optometrists should be! She is totally focused on the patient, extremely thorough, very kind, understanding and patient and has a great sense of humor.

She does a lot of tests to completely check the eyes and how they are teaming with the brain and each other, and then explains everything she is seeing. The office staff are very nice and helpful and everyone in the office has been so welcoming each time I’ve visited. This office and Dr. Gabrielle are what I wish I had found many years ago, and I couldn’t find a better place to go for my exams, prescriptions, and contact lenses!

Jan J., Redmond

We appreciated the thoroughness of Dr. Gabrielle’s evaluations and her conversations with us afterwards. Both Dr. Gabrielle and her therapists listened to our lifestyles and offered simple, concrete suggestions on how to work daily eye therapy into our very busy school lives. Our son would not have the opportunities in education today without his vision therapy. Vision therapy has given us hope!

Susan B., Kirkland

My experience was wonderful. Dr. Gabrielle was extremely helpful with other referrals, suggestions to help with my daughter. Her bedside manner and efficiency was appreciated. I would recommend to a friend and other professional, already did so. I would like to vision awareness for kids. Pediatricians should be recommending this. Very impressed.

Heather L., Monroe

Kristen R., Kirkland

We really had excellent experience at Dr. Gabrielle’s clinic. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Dr. Gabrielle is very thorough with my son’s check up. She spent full two hours in checking his eyes. She even gave good advice and was very patient. Dr. Gabrielle also called the glass shop where my son needed his prescription changed and explained to them the reason. She even followed up on us to see if we had any problem with the glass shop.

Maneerat T., Bothell

Dr. Gabrielle is magic! My son loves her and so do we.

Tracy S., Kirkland

I was anxious about this visit. Dilation can be challenging for typical kids and my son has the triple challenges of autism, anxiety, and sensory processing disorder. I needn’t have worried; Dr. Gabrielle was patient, kind, and fun. Our appointment could not have gone more smoothly. Thank you for taking such excellent care of my boy!

Adana P., Seattle

We were greeted kindly and treated with care. Dr Gabrielle spends a lot of time making sure every detail of an exam is covered, listens to the patient and parent, and clearly cares about getting things right versus just pushing another patient through the system. I appreciated Dr Gabrielle’s extended insight and advice into our son’s vision issues. The front desk staff is prompt and polite.

Brett S., Bothell

Very professional and thorough. Dr. Gabrielle was great with my son, keeping him engaged during a very long exam, and explaining her findings.
